Let's Read Together

In 2012 the Arab Thought Foundation (Al-Fikr AlArabi) released a report noting that the average Arab child reads just six minutes a year for pleasure. This provided the impetus for AZAQ to consider how to encourage children in Saudi Arabia to view reading as a fun activity.

The Let's Read Together program aims to create and develop a passion for the written word amongst children five to twelve years of age. Twice a month the program sponsors storybook reading events where parents are invited to bring their children to hear books read aloud and participate in painting and games that reinforce the messages put forth in the stories. The aim is for children to view reading as a fun family activity, to be engaged in regularly at home.

Let's Read Together also makes available printed books for children in need and plans to sponsor a competition for short story writing.
